Marion County commissioners are expected to name a new county mayor during a rescheduled County Commission meeting tonight.
Commissioners likely will vote to appoint a replacement for the late David A. Kirk, former longtime trustee who won the county mayor seat in August. Kirk unexpectedly died in November of complications arising from a horse-riding accident that had happened a few weeks before.
County Commission Chairman Gene Hargis assumed the post temporarily as commissioners worked toward an appointment.
The meeting, rescheduled from Dec. 27, will be at the new county commission building on U.S. Highway 41.
