Michelle Rice, owner of the Melting Pot, pulls out Perrier-Jouët Champagne which is part of the restaurant’s extensive selection of more than 242 wines. House salad. Milk chocolate fondue with dessert platter.

The Melting Pot continues to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital with a special seasonal fundraiser running through Dec. 31.

“No child should ever have to be sick and not be cared for,” says Michelle Rice, who owns the East Brainerd Melting Pot with her husband, Thane. “Last year we only had five weeks and raised $7,000.”

This is the second year for Rice to participate in the fundraiser that involves every Melting Pot across the country. Rice says guests who donate $10 or more will receive a Fondue for the Kids card that offers $20 off any future purchase of $50 or more. The fundraiser will run through Dec. 31 and all proceeds are donated directly to St. Jude.

Along with the restaurant’s fundraiser, Melting Pot is offering guests the opportunity to save and still enjoy their favorite fondue with gift card specials. Only through Dec. 31, the restaurant is offering guests the opportunity to buy a $100 gift card and receive four, $25-off certificates for future visits.

Melting Pot will welcome in 2011 with a special New Year’s Eve dinner, with seating available from 1 to 11 p.m. Guests are encouraged to call ahead and make reservations.

“It’s like a Big Night Out with all four courses,” Rice says. “You get to choose the salads, cheese and dessert. It comes with a champagne toast and a picture of each party in a frame to take home.”

The New Year’s Eve special menu will be designed for couples with a full range of fondue delicacies for $110. Guests will be able to choose between two new cheeses, the French onion Swiss cheese or the garlic and herb cheddar cheese fondue. Both fondues are served with French, rosemary and honey-wheat bread, Granny Smith apples, cauliflower, carrots and broccoli for dipping. The main entrée will be a platter of vanilla rum chicken, filet mignon, peppered shrimp and citrus marinated pork. Dessert, which is often one of the most popular courses, will be a choice between a dark chocolate raspberry and crème brulee fondue.

“The Melting Pot is a fun place,” Rice says. “People come here basically to celebrate something.”
