Moore’sMocs 3-8 after loss

KENNESAW, Ga. – The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s basketball team gave up successful jump shots in the closing seconds of regulation and overtime Tuesday to drop its fourth game in a row.

Kennesaw State’s Tamasha Bolden scored at the buzzer to tie the game at 53 at the end of the second half. The Owls’ Angie Smith scored with 2.7 seconds left in overtime to beat the Lady Mocs 65-63.

The loss was UTC’s second in a row in overtime. The Lady Mocs (3-8) haven’t lost four straight games since coach Wes Moore’s first season in 1998-99, and they haven’t been 3-8 since the 1986-87 season.

Despite sitting out most of the first half with two fouls, Whitney Hood scored a career-high 30 points to lead UTC. Destiny Bramblett had career highs with seven points and seven rebounds off the bench.

Hood went 13-of-18 from the field, but the rest of the team was a combined 10-of-47.

With Hood leading the way, the Lady Mocs never trailed for the final 10:40 of the second half. However, the Owls (3-6) were able to stay close and eventually force overtime.

The Lady Mocs will take a break for Christmas and return to action on Dec. 30 with their fourth straight road game, at Belmont.
