Quilts aren’t just about getting cozy. An annual exhibit at the Museum Center at Five Points proves they’re also works of art.
Starting Monday through Jan. 15, museum officials will be accepting entries of contemporary and antique quilts for the next “Stitches-in-Time” exhibit, scheduled Jan. 27-March 12.
Quilts may be brought to the museum center, 200 E. Inman St. in Cleveland, Tenn., 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturdays.
Participants are asked to have a 4-inch hanging sleeve either sewn or pinned to the back top of each quilt so the piece can be hung. Antique quilts do not need to have a sleeve. (Questions? Call 423-339-5745 and ask for Elizabeth.)
Quilts will be judged in six categories before the exhibit opens: Best of Show Large Contemporary; Best of Show Small Contemporary; Best of Show Antique; Best Duet (Two-Person) Quilt; Best Group Quilt; Best Use of Color & Design. A Viewer’s Choice Award will be decided by popular vote and announced at the close of the exhibit.
The museum will not be holding a quilt challenge for 2011 but will announce a challenge for 2012 in January.
