Silly rabbit, drums are for people.

That’s the one lesson Josh Green of the local funk/soul/gospel band The Distribution learned when he took the stage in an enormous bunny costume in September.

Despite how difficult the mask’s 4-inch foam-rubber skin made it to gauge his performance, Green is considering donning the get-up again tonight to make The Distribution’s New Year’s Eve celebration at Easy Bistro a little more special.

“I couldn’t hear a thing,” Green said, laughing. “Don’t expect good music, but you can expect some funny showmanship.”

Rabbit costumes may be noteworthy, but 2010 would have been memorable, regardless.

In the fall, The Distribution bid farewell to frontman David MacReynolds and added a third female vocalist, Satoya Foster. The band also celebrated the release of its first full-length album, “Trouble,” played a well-received late-night set at Riverbend and shared the stage at JJ’s Bohemia with “School House Rocks!” songwriter Bob Dorough.

Green said the band’s goal for next year is to build on the momentum it gained in 2010 and tour in support of “Trouble.” Material from that album will make up a good portion of the band’s set tonight, which will mark Foster’s debut and MacReynolds’ last show.

Despite MacReynolds’ departure, Green said The Distribution feels more solid at the close of its first full year together since forming in the summer of 2009.

“We got a lot better at writing as a group and at utilizing the specific voices of the band,” he said. “We came into that a lot (this year) and really started writing as a group.

“Now that we’ve got the identity of the band, we have a concept of what The Distribution is. We work better within that framework than we did when we started.”
