JASPER, Tenn. — Marion County commissioners sounded more like mathematicians than county administrators when discussing an option to accept a $3.675 million bond resolution at their recent meeting.
The mathematical problem at hand included an almost countless list of variables.
One was that the bond amount include grant money that the county may or may not receive. And the county can’t apply for other grants unless it puts up half the matching funds, which part of the bond was intended to cover.
“We can’t get the grants unless we have the local matching in place,” said Marion County Mayor Howell Moss. “We’ve got to have our part covered. Obviously, if we don’t get the grants, we’re not going to spend the money.”
