Chattanooga: Council expected to delay local bid ordinance

The City Council could delay for another week an ordinance that would give more preference to local contractors and create more transparency on public bidding.

Councilman Peter Murphy, chairman of the Legal and Legislative Committee, said today that it would probably be appropriate to defer the ordinance for another week, letting other interested parties weigh in.

The ordinance would give preference to any company who resides or hires workers within a 75-mile radius of Chattanooga. The proposed ordinance also establishes that all bids would have to be put online for 90 days.
