FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Surprising Central, a team consisting of mostly freshmen and sophomores, fell a victory shy of the medal rounds in the Tennessee State wrestling duals. The Purple Pounders fell to Pigeon Forge 36-32 in the Class A/AA consolation finals.
“The team came together. We had guys going for pins and extra team points when they could and they were doing it for one another,” Central assistant Josh Edmonson said.
Bradley Central was wrestling Science Hill and Cleveland was wrestling Collierville in the Class AAA winners-bracket semifinals.
Baylor and McCallie were competing against Brentwood Academy and Montgomery Bell Academy respectively in Division II losers-bracket semifinals. If both were to win, they’d meet for third place.
