Residents of Patton Towers apartments on East 11th Street were evacuated just after 9 a.m. today when the Chattanooga Fire Department responded to a fire alarm, officials said.
Fire crews found the living room of the apartment indicated on the alarm panel engulfed in flames, said fire department spokeswoman Capt. Terri Whiteside in a news release.
No residents were found inside the apartment.
Other residents in neighboring apartments were evacuated as a precaution and were sheltered at the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Bicentennial Library. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the original apartment, with little damage to surrounding units, the release states.
No injuries were reported and the fire is still under investigation, Capt. Whiteside said.
