Holyfield wife gets protective order

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. – A magistrate judge in Fayette County has temporarily granted a protective order against boxing great Evander Holyfield that was sought earlier this month by his wife.

Candi Holyfield claims her 47-year-old husband hit her several times after an argument about donations to their church.

She says in Fayette County Court records she was battered on the night of Feb. 1 after she refused to show him check stubs of her tithes to the church.

Evander Holyfield did not return several phone calls seeking comment. A publicist for the couple said in an e-mail that the two remained a “strong married couple.”

The judge ordered Holyfield to stay at least 500 yards from his wife and their two children. A hearing is set for Feb. 18.
