CLEVELAND, Tenn. — Tennessee Comptroller Justin Wilson and Treasurer Daniel Lillard are on the guest list for Sunday’s groundbreaking ceremony for an $8 million addition to Cleveland High School.

They will join local leaders to launch construction of the Max R. Carroll Science Wing.

Work already has begun on the project that will change the look of the front of the 45-year-old school. Wet weather has delayed progress, schools construction liaison Gene Bishop told members of the Cleveland school board’s site committee Wednesday.

“There’s not a lot that can be done for now, but we are ready when it dries,” he said.

Mr. Bishop said he is awaiting estimates for adding a detention pond on the high school site.

School board member Steve Morgan said that Mid-State Construction Co. project supervisor David Joyce has created a learning experience for drafting and architecture students, who visit the company’s trailer office to study the plans and watch what goes on.

“They are going to see this thing from the beginning to the end,” Mr. Morgan said.
