William Jordan Schwenk, 12, of Soddy-Daisy, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, at his home.
Twelve years ago on April 22, 1997 we were blessed with the most beautiful little boy. He showed everyone he met the true meaning of love and life. Although Jordan could never walk or talk, nor breathe or eat without assistance, he proved to all of us that life was worth living. He loved Mommy and Daddy close, and he was inventive in entertaining himself … hiding under a blanket, playing with a pillow or digging a hole in the sofa could keep him happily occupied for hours. He was our light, our joy, our angel.
Jordan was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, William Claude and Elizabeth McAfee Smith; great-grandmother, Lettie Posey Chauncey; great-grandparents, Clarence and Reba Brumlow Schwenk; and great-grandparents, Virgil and Naomi Duggan Varnes.
Survivors are father and mother, Brian and Regina Smith Schwenk; grandparents, William Rex and Pat Chauncey Smith, grandparents, Eddie and Joyce Varnes Schwenk; great-grandfather, William McKinley Chauncey; uncle, aunt and cousin, Michael, Carolyn Beatty and Samuel Smith, Toronto, Canada; uncle, Gale Lee Smith; two honorary aunts who were actually cousins, Aunt Dar (Darlene Case) and Aunt Lisa (Lisa Virusso) along with numerous great-aunts, great-uncles and cousins.
Jordan was a member of Freedom Worship Center, where Pastors Mike and Susie Battles embraced him and us in a way we could have never imagined. To both of you or our entire church family, thank you. Jordan had four very special friends/cousins whom he loved dearly, all because they treated him as if he were “just one of them” … Alex and Emily Rose and Brandon and Brooke Case.We would also like to express our deepest gratitude to four exceptionally gifted doctors … Dr. Tom Voychehovski, Dr. Drago Tolosa, Dr. Peter Boehm and Dr. Chris St. Charles. Thank you all for your unrelenting kindness and treatment of our son. Our son required constant care from the day he was born, and we must thank five very giving ladies who took such wonderful care of him … Denise Scruggs, DeNessa Cartwright, Judy Harwood, Direnda Hines and Patricia Hursh. And, last but certainly not least, thank you to the doctors and nurses of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at T.C. Thompson’s Children’s Hospital. We appreciate your tireless efforts in allowing us to bring our son home to die with those who loved him.
Memorial contributions to Walter E. Boehm Birth Defects Center or Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Chattanooga would be greatly appreciated.
