An independent committee looking at how to help the city’s lower water quality fees presented a $10 million revenue-only budget to the City Council today.
Bill Raines, chairman of the committee, told the council that he and members of the committee felt it was an amount city fee payers could afford.
“We didn’t run into a single person in support of the current structure,” Mr. Raines said.
City residents currently pay $115.20 a year, raised last October from $36 a year. Businesses, commercial properties and institutions can pay more because they can qualify as multiple residences.
The city’s administration will present its own water quality budget next week. Mayor Ron Littlefield said today it would include some relief for nonresidential users, but quickly ramp back up to the current rate.
