13-year-old boy in custody after bus joy ride

GAINESVILLE, Ga. – A 13-year-old boy is being held in juvenile detention after authorities say he went on a late-night joyride, breaking into school buses and driving them in circles in a bus barn in Gainesville.

Jeff Strickland of the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, says the boy broke into and drove four or five Hall County buses on Feb. 22 and stole the keys when he left.

Surveillance cameras show the boy scaling the lot’s chain fence and driving the buses around.

Bus drivers tell authorities they realized something was wrong when they arrived for work to find their buses weren’t where they left them.

Investigators say the boy was on the lot for at least 45 minutes, going from bus to bus.

Authorities caught the boy hours later breaking into a house.
