A Saturday concert for the internationally acclaimed radio series “Bluegrass Underground” will be filmed live for airing on PBS stations.
Set to perform are newgrass musician John Cowan and his band, the genre-bending band The Greencards and gospel powerhouse Mike Farris with the McCrary Sisters. Each artist will perform a 45-minute set.
The series pilot will be videotaped in the acoustically pure Volcano Room, 333 feet below the surface within Cumberland Caverns in McMinnville, Tenn.
This weekly “musical adventure” has been airing since 2008 on country music’s flagship station, WSM-AM 650.
Now, concert promoter Todd Mayo’s Loblolly Ventures, PBS station WCTE-DTV in Cookeville, Tenn., and Emmy Award-winning producer Todd Jarrell are developing the series for national distribution on public television.
The show begins at 1 p.m. CST. Arrival is requested by noon for the first of three trips to lead guests into the cavern.
Tickets are $20. To order, visit www.bluegrassunderground.com.
