Chattanooga saw its first homicide of the year today when a 40-year-old was found fatally shot in the head this morning.
Jimmy L. Yearby, 40, of 1905 S. Beech St. was pronounced dead at 717 Sanders St. at Ochs Highway, said police spokeswoman Lt. Kim Noorbergen.
Two federal park workers found Mr. Yearby in the middle of the road about 7:30 a.m. this morning and called police.
Mr. Yearby had no identity on him so police identified him through fingerprints, said Lt. Tim Carroll, head of the department’s major crimes division.
Mr. Yearby’s body was found near the cut-through for the Ochs and Scenic highways. Because the location is federal property, the FBI also is investigating the case.
