Finley Stadium operator Merrill Eckstein today projected the Stadium Corp. will lose $14,602 during the current fiscal year that ends June 30. Eckstein said revenues exceeded expectations due to the success of the UTC football team under first-year coach Russ Huesman but that there have been $46,309 in building maintenance expenses.

Eckstein’s budget this past summer estimated $21,000 in such expenses.

“We’ve had some nasty surprises with the recent weather,” Eckstein said. “We’ve had a series of water-line breaks, and they’re being repaired as soon as they occur.”

Despite the projected loss, Eckstein and Stadium Corp. board members are pleased with how this past football season went, considering the number of uncertainties.

“You’ve had a good first six months, and it would turn into a great job if the budget gets balanced,” Gordon Davenport Jr. told Eckstein before the meeting adjourned. “There were millions of variables – new concessions and a new team – but I think there is good momentum for the future.”
