Four Brainerd High School students were charged with carrying a weapon on school property Thursday after school resource officers found a loaded .38-caliber handgun in their possession.
The school resource officers received information early in the day that a student was carrying a weapon on school property, said Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Janice Atkinson. School authorities and the resource officer conducted an investigation, finding four students — two males and two females — had passed the weapon among each other during the day, she said.
The weapon was found in the possession of one of the female juveniles, according to a Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office news release.
The four students involved were taken to the Hamilton County Juvenile Detention Center, Ms. Atkinson said.
