With thousands of airliners and countless small private aircraft flying across our country and throughout the world every day, there unfortunately are some tragic plane crashes, often with many fatalities, despite remarkable air safety records.
In our area this week, there was bad news that a small, single-engine aircraft crashed at the Collegedale airport Thursday. Fortunately, the pilot, the only one aboard, was reported to have been able to “walk away” without major injuries.
There are so many automobile crashes that most of them do not “make news” unless there are tragic fatalities. But aircraft crashes always are “news.”
We are certainly relieved that this rare local crash did not make any worse news than it did.
