Woman’s body found, hit-and-run suspected

HARRIMAN, Tenn. – Authorities in Harriman believe a woman found dead in a road ditch was the victim of a hit-and-run.

Police say the body was that of 33-year-old Alicia Gilreath of Harriman, who had argued with her boyfriend Monday evening and was walking back home.

Harriman Police Chief Randy Heidle told The Knoxville News Sentinel a man who wouldn’t give his name called 911 Tuesday morning from a pay telephone about a mile away from where the body was found.

Police say Gilreath’s shoes and contents of her purse were found scattered along the road.

Investigators found signs a vehicle had pulled off the road after impact and there were broken pieces of a turn signal found. Police are looking for a green 2001-2005 Ford truck or sport utility vehicle with damage on the passenger side.
