North face of Chilhowee Mountain protected by pact

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Foothills Land Conservancy has signed a conservation agreement that protects nearly 2,000 acres on Chilhowee (chihl-HOW’-ee) Mountain from development.

The Daily Times in Maryville reported the pact was reached in December and was disclosed during a search of public records.

The Blount County Register of Deeds Office document shows Samuel E. Beall III, son of Ruby Tuesday’s restaurant chain founder Sandy Beall, signed the easement agreement on Dec. 22 on behalf of Three Sisters Two Associated LLC.

Conservancy Executive Director Bill Clabough said the land is the north face of the Chilhowees off U.S. 321.

He said it’s a great gift to know the land will never be developed.

The easement helped the conservancy meet a goal of protecting 25,000 acres in 2009 – its 25th anniversary.
