Americans love gadgets, and nowadays their greatest love affair seems to be with electronic gadgets.
Consider the big sales of hand-held electronic games, not to mention cell phones and such.
But now Steve Jobs and Apple Inc. have come up with what some consider the “ultimate’ (so far) in exciting electronic marvels. It’s called the “iPad.”
What is it?
Well, it seems to be almost “everything.” It has a touch screen 9.7 inches wide, is just half an inch thick, weighs only a pound and a half, and has 16 or 32 or 64 gigabytes of memory. Touch icons invite choices of phone service, photo albums, books, e-mail, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a video player and … who knows?
Maybe you have to be of a “certain generation” to appreciate it all. Various models are priced from $499 up to $829, depending upon the memory capacity.
And it is all run on a 10-hour rechargeable battery.
What real nerd can resist jumping in as soon as he can raise the money?
This is the latest in a fast-moving, hand-held accommodation of the electronic revolution.
You can bet it’ll be a huge success.
