Chattanooga: Man shot, in critical condition

Chattanooga police responded to a shooting at 2400 Glass St. about 2:45 a.m. this morning, according to police spokeswoman Officer Rebecca Royval.

Witnesses told police the victim, Jerome Timmons, 31, and the suspect, got into a fight in the parking lot of The Palace bar. Witnesses said that the suspect pulled a gun from his waistband and pointed it at Mr. Timmons. Mr. Timmons then turned to run across Taylor Street and the armed suspect chased after him and shot his gun twice, striking Mr. Timmons in the head.

Witnesses told police the suspect fled the scene in a white vehicle.

Mr. Timmons was transported to Erlanger hospital by Hamilton County EMS, where he was listed in critical condition.

The suspect, Jamaul Herman, 27, was stopped by officers on Tarpon Trail in the Highway 58 area and taken into custody, Officer Royval said. Mr. Herman had apparently suffered a broken jaw during the altercation with Mr. Timmons and was transported to Memorial Hospital, where he was taken into surgery.

Warrants for Mr. Herman’s arrest have been issued for aggravated assault and attempted murder and will be served upon his release from the hospital.
