Woman burned in boat fire at Harrison Bay State Park

A woman suffered first and second-degree burns this morning when a boat caught fire in Harrison Bay Marina, according to the Chattanooga fire department.

Firefighters were having lunch at the nearby Dockside Cafe when someone rushed in report an explosion, said fire department spokesman Bruce Garner.

By the time firefighters, aboard their fire boat, arrived at the scene, an onboard fire suppression system had already extinguished a flash fire aboard the vessel. The injured woman was in the water.

“She was quickly plucked from the water,” Mr. Garner said. “The man was onboard and was apparently uninjured.”

The boat is leaking fuel into the lake, but HAZMAT crews from the Hamilton County Emergency Services were working to capture that fuel now, Mr. Garner said.
