A 10-acre forest fire on the Rocky Face Mountain Ridge in Whitfield County, Ga., near Dalton has been contained, officials said.
The “Disney Fire,” named for a Civil War grave nearby, began late Sunday night on the bluff overlooking North Georgia and burned through Wednesday evening.
Jeremy Ridley, ranger for the Georgia Forestry Commission, said firefighters discovered charred fireworks packages at the site on Monday morning. State investigators are pursuing that lead.
By Thursday afternoon, the flames had been extinguished. Firefighters remained on the scene to ensure the blaze does not re-ignite.
