A Dade County store owner became the second in two weeks busted for paying off on video poker machines, Sheriff Patrick Cannon says.
Patsy Whited, 64, who lives in Higdon, Ala., was arrested this afternoon and nine gambling machines were taken out of P’s variety store on Highway 301 atop Sand Mountain. Ms. Whited was charged with commercial gambling and keeping a place of gambling, according to a news release.
The sheriff said the bust came after an undercover operation into payoffs for video poker machines throughout the county.
“We want to encourage the store owners that have these machines (that) if they’re doing anything illegal, let this be a warning. It’s possible they might get caught,” the sheriff said.
