Ramsey using election-year ploy

County Mayor Claude Ramsey said, “There will be no county tax increase this year.”

We are so blessed to have him as our mayor. He understands these are hard times for all people, especially the elderly and those on a fixed income.

Oh, but wait a moment, this is an election year, he’s up for re-election. It sure would look bad if he raised county taxes this year.

Go ahead, vote him in for another term; see how much your taxes will increase next year.

Can you afford to pay more taxes? Claude can. He has plenty of money. He will probably even get a big pay raise next year.

As for me, I will vote for anyone who runs against him. It’s time to get rid of all elected officials who even think of raising taxes.

Wamp right choice to be governor

Tennessee primary elections are upon us. The key decision is who will lead Tennessee to the future? I cannot think of anyone better equipped for the challenge than Congressman Zach Wamp, who’s running for governor.

He has a specific strategy. His 20/20 Vision will embrace the key issues with energy, tenacity and executive leadership and will move Tennessee forward.

Here are a few examples:

Job Creation — Congressman Wamp helped create the Tennessee Valley Technology Corridor, where the focus has been on long-term regional efforts to grow and promote the manufacturing sector; attracting Volkswagen, WackerChemie, and Alstom Power to name a few.

Education — Congressman Wamp’s approach to bringing Tennessee up in the rankings in education includes a public/private emphasis on early childhood reading improvement. His plan also addresses educational opportunities geared toward jobs including workforce training partnerships, and more distance and online learning options to bring education to rural families.

Preventive Health — Congressman Wamp is a role model for positive health maintenance. He wants to get Tennessee moving through regular exercise and a renewed focus on preventive health care. He will promote routine checkups, mammograms, colonoscopy, etc. in order to maintain healthy Tennessee.

Zach Wamp is the right choice to be our next governor.

Wamp’s experience will benefit state

Our country is facing situations that we have never before experienced. California is nearly bankrupt and is looking toward the federal government for assistance. Arizona has taken a bold stance by enacting legislation that mimics the federal laws already in place but not enforced. More states are revamping their own immigration laws in order to make them more like Arizona’s. How close is Tennessee to facing these situations?

In light of just these two issues, which gubernatorial candidate is more likely to understand the complexity of these situations? Which candidate has a global perspective on illegal immigration and budgetary considerations? Which candidate understands the importance of state sovereignty and knows how to protect it?

Zach Wamp, a United States congressman for the last 15 years, is the only candidate who has seen the inside of Washington politics and understands how things work. This perspective makes him uniquely qualified to lead our state and avoid the pitfalls political novices may not recognize. He understands Tennessee’s strengths as a state, as part of our nation, and part of the global economy. With strength and integrity Zach Wamp represented us well as a congressman. He will lead us well as governor.

Help bring about Haynes’ ‘new vision’

A vote for Marty Haynes is a vote for a “new vision” for District 3 and the Hamilton County school board.

I have known Marty for over 30 years and have always admired his community spirit. He takes great pride in our community and has given of his time in a variety of service areas.

I recently heard Marty speak and I want to share one of his many great ideas that he called a “New Vision.”

In 2012 the Hamilton County school board will either renew Dr. Scales’ contract or seek another person to lead the Hamilton County Department of Education. Marty shared it is his belief that a local candidate should at least warrant consideration.

A local person has not been the superintendent of our school system in many years. I agree — maybe it’s time we hire local again!

I ask my friends in District 3 to join me in supporting Marty Haynes for the Hamilton County school board. A vote for Marty Haynes is a vote for new ideas and a “new vision” for District 3.

Administration has blown it

From the start of the oil spill in the Gulf, I’ve had a front-row seat. We have a home in Gulf Shores, Ala., and have watched the total lack of leadership on behalf of Obama.

From the start, they didn’t have a clue as to how to help except send all of the inept heads of the various agencies to the Gulf for photo ops including arrogant Vice President Biden. There’s no leadership handling the spill, just denial of the various agencies.

BP isn’t paying the claims. People are struggling and just waiting for their money to run out. The people who depend on the 13 weeks of season are going to have a tough winter. What amazes all us on the Gulf is where is the support of the media as they laid the blame on Katrina on Bush.

No, we’re the South and didn’t support Obama and they really don’t care about the South and its people, but this administration has blown it and the media and Hollywood don’t want to admit it.

Where are Oprah and Ellen and the fundraising efforts … noticeably absent. Hey, thank you, Jimmy Buffett, for the concert on the beach in Gulf Shores on July 11. Fins up.

Select Crangle as congressman

Do you believe our taxes are too high, in smaller government, pro-life, the right to keep and bear arms, the Constitution, no cap and trade, protecting our borders, fair tax, repealing ObamaCare?

Then you need to vote for Tommy Crangle for Congress.

He has an engineering degree and spent a large part of his career building electric grid throughout Tennessee.

He volunteered for six assignments in Iraq to assist with rebuilding electric infrastructure and provide electricity to 25 million Iraqis.

Tommy Crangle was awarded a Joint Civilian Service Commendation Award in Iraq, a medal (“coined”) by 4-Star Gen. David Petraeus for excellence.

If you do believe in the above, you need to vote for Tommy Crangle for Congress on Aug. 5. He will not let you down.

Haynes gives time, resources

Please join me in voting for Marty Haynes as the next Hamilton County school board representative for District 3.

Words such as better schools, community service and passion are catch phrases used during election cycles. However, in the person of Marty Haynes these are words that described his outlook and concern for the schools in District 3.

Marty has given of his time and resources in a number of community areas. His service at Stuart Heights Baptist, Hixson High PTA, Hixson Kiwanis, the Ronald McDonald House, etc., prove to me that he is concerned about ways to make our entire community better.

Marty has shared with me his ideas regarding having the Hamilton County Department of Education budget online, as well as an online check register for expenditures. Marty also believes the HCDE should have an outside audit of the current budget to find possible savings for the taxpayers.

I ask you to join me in supporting Marty Haynes for school board Aug. 5.
