Counting the days

The past year has challenged families of the 252nd Military Police Company in different ways, but on Sunday they can share in one celebration – all their soldiers are coming home.

After a year that included a wedding, her husband’s first combat tour, the birth of their daughter and a death in the family, Tara Cannon said that readjusting to normal life is going to be a challenge.

Mrs. Cannon is the wife of Spc. Jeff Cannon, who is now in Fort Dix, N.J., with the other 170 Tennessee Army National Guard soldiers of the Cleveland, Tenn.-based company. The unit is scheduled to fly to Smyrna, Tenn., Saturday, then board buses for home.

Many of the soldiers are from the Chattanooga area.

The unit has worked with the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division in Iraq since early last fall and returned to the United States on Tuesday.
