Tennessee Valley Theatre in Spring City will present a special showing of the just-released movie “Gunfight at La Mesa” at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Admission is free, though donations to the theater’s Children’s Theatre Workshop will be accepted.

The movie, now available on DVD and digital download from Netflix, was released by LionsGate. It is the work of Bryan College alumni Walker Haynes and Chris Fickley. Haynes was the writer, lead actor, producer and editor, and Fickley worked as the writer and director.

Among the cast and crew are a cadre of local talent, including veteran actor Tony McCuiston and members of Haynes’ family.

The movie was shot on location in southern New Mexico. “Gunfight at La Mesa” had a shoestring budget, utilizing thousands of volunteer hours. The neo-Western is set in the 1930s and is filled with heroes and villains, action, suspense, mystery, gunfights and showdowns. Tate Noble, played by Haynes, returns home to discover who killed his parents and to seek revenge.

Upon completion, “Gunfight at La Mesa” hit the festival circuit, first playing at the 2008 New Mexico Film Expo, then at the 2009 Macon Film & Video Festival. It won an Award of Merit at the 2009 Indie Fest.
