Calderon remarks insult country
In response to recent comments by the Mexican President Calderon: Where does a foreign president come off insulting our country and making disparaging remarks about our laws and get a standing ovation from our Cabinet members! This is not only insulting to legal American citizens as to what he said, but it borders on the edge of anarchy what Palatanio, Holder, Posner, Polosi, Bidden, Morton, and our liberal Congress did!
Congress, lawmakers, and enforcement groups such as ICE think they can pick and chose which laws of this country they will uphold and enforce. We have gone to a society of political correctness so far, no one can even recognize this country any longer.
Calderon wants illegals to come to our country and work, for they send over $2 billion a year back to Mexico and are the main support of the Mexican economy.
If he thinks weapons come from the U.S.A., then what is he doing to keep them out? Our forefathers never envisioned the “career politician” when they set up our government. They envisioned people who wanted to serve the masses, not be self serving.

Cartoon on soldiers misses the point
This comes in response to Clay Bennett’s illustration of two cemetery workers digging up and removing a soldier from a veterans cemetery after it was discovered the soldier was gay. Bennett misses the point, and so do all who agree with Bennett.
Soldiers work together in close quarters. They eat, sleep and shower together, in some cases open shower latrines. I served in the 101st Airborne Division and the 2nd Infantry Division and took showers in those open shower latrines, and I was glad that my fellow fighting comrades were not gay (as far as I knew), which is precisely the point.
I appreciate the gay soldier who wants to fight for my freedom, but it’s not fair to the majority of straight soldiers who don’t need the added stress of a fellow soldier seeking a gay encounter. As I was preparing to leave my duty station in Camp Greaves, Korea, in 1991, tragedy struck on post. On a Saturday night, two or three drunk straight soldiers forced their way into a gay soldier’s barracks and severely beat him. Not kind, but reality. The boldness of the homosexual agenda may lead to future violence.

Wait for other shoe in the Sestak case
I have listened to the reports of the offer to Joe Sestak to get out of the Senate race, and this is what I have concluded:
The White House wanted Sestak out and Specter in.
They, “the White House,” decided to offer a non-paying job on a presidential board.
Rahm Emmanuel asked Bill Clinton to make the offer.
Clinton talked to Sestak a year ago for about a minute and Sestak declined.
Sestak has referred to “an offer of a White House job to get out of the race” ever since.
The White House counsel drafted last Friday’s response “weeks ago.”
The report was issued on Friday afternoon of a holiday weekend.
Conclusion: Everybody’s hands are clean. The whole story is on the table. Bill Clinton is not a White House employ so nothing is illegal.
It’s going to be fun to see the other shoe drop.

Send a message, boycott BP
The destruction of the Deepwoter Horizon and subsequent unabated flow of oil into the Gulf of Mexico was no “industrial accident” as some have excused. Eyewitness testimony from a crew member, now corroborated by internal company memoranda, substantiates that the explosion was caused by willful decisions on the part of British Petroleum (BP) management, including dismissal of numerous warning signs of system failures and a decision to prioritize speed over safety. Those irresponsible, purposeful acts were followed by the deaths of 11 crewmen and the worst environmental disaster in our country’s history.
While we all feel angry, frustrated and deeply concerned over the continual damage being done to our national treasures along the Gulf of Mexico, there is something that we can do to help. Do not do business with those responsible for this horrific tragedy!
Stop buying gasoline from BP.
While we all can’t go rushing down to Louisiana or Gulf Shores to shovel oil-laden sand or clean off a dying pelican, we can do our part as responsible citizens to send a message.

Face issues with lifestyle changes
Two national issues that are getting big media attention:
1. Drug traffic from Mexico to the U.S. and associated violence on both sides of the border. We must quote Pogo again, “we have met the enemy and he is us.” There are two ways to greatly reduce or stop the violence: U.S. citizens stop buying and using the drugs; legalize them so there is no great profit motive to sell them illegally. But, arrogant, prideful, hedonistic Americans are not ready to do either; we want to keep destroying ourselves.
2. The BP oil catastrophe. A recent letter commented on the “idiocy and greed of … big oil and finance.” No quick solution, but again, “the enemy is us.”
Our capitalistic, free enterprise system has promoted the idea of financial wealth for each of our citizens from beginning of the republic. This ideology molded us into the “Ugly Americans” years ago. With only 5 percent of world population we use (a fourth) of the world’s oil, control world finances, and have poverty level incomes exceeding that of over 80 percent of the world’s population.
Materialism, national arrogance and pride have coupled with idiocy and greed to pervade our society at all levels. Anyone for some real lifestyle change?

Let Testerman use his experience
David Testerman, who is running for the School Board in District 8, would be a great asset to the education system in Hamilton County.
I got to know David when he worked as the youth minister at our church, when my sons attended the youth group there. His leadership and love for children and young people are still felt to this day. Even after our sons were young adults, they would call David for advice or just to talk to him whenever they had a problem.
When David was the principal at White Oak Elementary School, he called our church to ask if we could help provide pencils, markers, scissors, paper and other small items the children needed, since many of the parents could not afford to buy school supplies.
For as long as David served at White Oak Elementary, he would pick up the supplies provided by the church and take to them to the school.
We really need people like David Testerman on our School Board; people who are personally interested in the education of our children.
I hope voters in District 8 will give David Testerman a chance to add his enthusiasm and experience to the School Board.
