Persistence pays

Even when he was leading his match Sunday, Augusta State’s Taylor Floyd didn’t look good. His face was pale, his every movement seemed to be a struggle.

Teammate Mitch Krywulycz, meanwhile, was way behind for most of his match. He never led until the very last moment, when Oklahoma State’s Kevin Tway missed a 4-foot par putt that delivered the Jaguars the NCAA men’s golf championship.

Despite some serious obstacles — Floyd was sick, Krywulycz was 4-down with seven holes to play, Oklahoma State is a powerhouse with 10 national championships — Augusta State fought its way around The Honors Course and found a way to persevere.

“We like to think we’re kind of tough,” Krywulycz said. “I don’t really think we are, but we like to think that deep down when push comes to shove that we can get it done. I guess today fell our way, but that’s really all it did, it fell our way.
