Tonya Craft and her ex-husband today had a hearing behind closed doors today regarding her visitation schedule with their two children.
Both parties agreed before Circuit Court Judge Marie L. Williams that it would be better to discuss details of the arrangement in her chambers rather than an open courtroom.
Judge Williams agreed, saying Ms. Craft’s children do not need their business discussed in public.
Ms. Craft emerged after the five-minute meeting with tears in her eyes, but said she did not want to discuss the situation.
Ms. Craft’s mother, Betty Faires, said after the hearing that Ms. Craft felt like it was “a step forward.”
The former kindergarten teacher has largely been unable to see her two children for the past two years as she battled child molestation charges in North Georgia.
A Catoosa County jury acquitted Ms. Craft on May 11 of 22 charges involving child molestation that surfaced in 2008 when she was a kindergarten teacher in Chickamauga, Ga. The case received national media attention, and she now is suing all her accusers in a $25 million federal lawsuit.
