UGA duo having ‘cool’ time

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — Hudson Swafford had no idea whether he’d make the cut after walking off the 18th green at Pebble Beach while half the field still played the second round of the U.S. Open.

If he missed by a shot, no big deal.

If he made it, great. It would extend a great week into the weekend.

The University of Georgia golfer had a share of the lead for a while Thursday evening at 2 under par. Less than 24 hours later, he concluded 36 holes at 8-over 150. At the time, the projected cut was 7 over.

“Hopefully this wind blows and people make bonehead mistakes like I did,” said Swafford, who sat out the college season after undergoing shoulder surgery in August. “We’ll see if I make it.”
