Cleveland Utilities will inspect leaking sewage station

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Cleveland Utilities board of directors decided today to get an engineering inspection of a failing privately owned sewage system serving the Peachtree Pointe mobile home park.

A broken pump station in the never-licensed system is blamed for leaking human waste into Wilkinson Creek off Michigan Avenue Road. The California owner of the park has been ordered by state environmental regulators to repair the sewage system and turn it over to Cleveland Utilities.

Thursday, CU board members were told they didn’t have to take over the privately owned sewage system if it is substandard. They agreed to have two engineers conduct a study and notify the owner of what needs to be done and how much it will cost.
