Tennessee: Bredesen gives advice to UT system board

Gov. Phil Bredesen spoke to the UT trustees for the first time in seven years today, saying he wants to give a few charges to the governing board of UT system before he leaves office in a few months.

The governor said UT officials should make pushing the University of Tennessee in Knoxville into a spot as a top 25 institution a top priority.

He also said school officials shouldn’t rely on state appropriation dollars in future years and should develop better methods of fundraising.
