CLEVELAND, Tenn. — Two good friends, Calle Nielson and Ashley Lance, headed to the golf course Friday. They’ve been playing tournaments together for more than a decade, but this time it was different.
This time they were going head to head in match play with the 70th Tennessee Women’s Amateur Championship on the line.
Nielson, the two-time Tennessee Golf Association player of the year from Nashville, won the first three holes and then held off Lance down the stretch for a 2 & 1 win at the Cleveland Country Club.
The quality of play was up and down — the players had a combined seven bogeys and eight birdies — but both Nielson and Lance were smiling after the round.
