A 2-year-old boy drowned in a pool Saturday evening only five minutes after his parents saw him inside the family’s home, officials said.
Keyson Phillips apparently was able to climb a small ladder to get into his family’s above-ground pool, according to Whitfield County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Capt. Rick Swiney.
When it was determined that the boy was not in the house, his parents rushed outside and found him unconscious in approximately three feet of water, Capt. Swiney said. Both parents were home at the time of the incident, he said.
Whitfield County Fire Department and First Responders arrived at the 764 Keith Drive residence about 6 p.m. Authorities worked on the boy until EMS arrived and transported the child to Hamilton Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
