This is discrimination?

Mention “discrimination” and people think of unfair treatment of someone on account of race, religion and so forth. But not all discrimination is created equal. For instance, employers promote workers who are diligent and punctual, even though that “discriminates” against those who are lazy or late to work.

So it was strange to read that in merry old England, favoring employees with positive work habits now seems to be grounds for legal action.

In the town of Thetford, a business wanted to hire a maid. So it sent a help-wanted ad to the local, government-run employment agency. The ad said applicants should be “very reliable and hard-working.”

But the so-called “Jobcentre” rejected the ad. When the business asked why, the agency said it already faced legal action “for discriminating against unreliable people,” The Telegraph newspaper reported.

“I laughed because I thought that was crazy,” owner Nicole Mamo said.
