A Sequatchie, Tenn., man was killed this morning when he was ejected from his pickup truck after a traffic crash on Interstate 24, police said.
Witnesses told Chattanooga police that a 1998 Chrysler Sebring, determined to have been driven by Ruby D. Payne, 57, of Whitwell, Tenn., was weaving in and out of eastbound traffic near Browns Ferry Road when she left the roadway and struck the guardrail. Her car then went back into traffic and struck a 2006 Ford F250 pickup driven by John L. Taylor, 63, of Sequatchie, Tenn., according to Lt. Kim Noorbergen, police spokeswoman.
The truck left the roadway, hit an embankment and rolled several times. Mr. Taylor, who was ejected from the vehicle, was taken to Erlanger hospital where he was pronounced dead, Lt. Noorbergen said.
She said Ms. Payne was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Mr. Taylor’s death marks the city’s third traffic fatality this year, according to police.
