The Lee University Chorale will present its spring concert Monday, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 340 Church St. in Cleveland, Tenn.
Assistant Professor of Music Dr. William R. Green will conduct the 36-voice select ensemble.
The program will open with a collection of sacred pieces centering on expressions of God’s greatness and provision including “Song of Exaltation” by John Ness Beck and the exuberant “Apostrophe to the Heavenly Hosts” by Canadian composer Healey Willan. Also included will be a setting of Psalm 23 by late Romantic composer Georg Schumann.
The program will feature a set of vocal quartets by renowned German composer Johannes Brahms and culminate with a section of works focusing on the miracle of God’s Earth.
The centerpiece of this portion of the program will be a collection of “Three Nocturnes” by American composer Dan Forrest. The work combines chorus and percussion ensemble in three movements inspired by the writings of poets Sara Teasdale, Emily Dickinson and Walt Whitman. The pieces are diverse in style, but all express a sense of wonder at the night sky, according to university officials.
Admission to the concert is free. For more information contact the School of Music at 423-614-8240.
