Police, teachers, attorneys, clergy and politicians are meeting today at UTC for a U.S. Attorney’s Office summit on gangs.

Participants are here to connect, share resources and find community-wide solutions for gang problems, said Russ Dedrick, U.S. Attorney for Tennessee’s eastern district.

The first step, said pastor Ternae Jordan, is to recognize gang activity.

“When you have 10 to 12 young people walking around with the same color on, unless they are a part of the Chattanooga boy’s choir, they’re into something,” he said.

The daylong summit will pair each area of the community in breakout sessions and build workable solutions to gang problems, according to the schedule.
