MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Once again the Golden Eagles had to settle for silver.
Despite rallying from 23 points down in the first half to force two overtimes, Grace Academy fell to top-ranked Clarksville Academy 82-77 in the Class A boys’ basketball state championship game Saturday at Middle Tennessee State University.
It is the third time in six years the Golden Eagles have finished runners-up.
“It was hard to accept the silver ball when they handed it to me,” Grace coach Jon Mattheiss said. “Not that we aren’t appreciative, but that’s not what we came here for.
“It’s very disappointing to have to settle for it again.”
