Jeremy Jones announced Thursday night he would drop out of the race for Georgia’s 9th Congressional District and instead will challenge Sen. Jeff Mullis, R-Chickamauga for the Georgia Senate district 53.
A news release from the Jones campaign states Mr. Jones made the switch “believing he can do more good at the state level than at the national level.”
Mr. Jones said this morning that many supporters had urged him to run for the state Senate seat and he began seriously considering it about three weeks ago.
He said Congress’s health care vote was the “straw that broke the camel’s back” and finalized his decision.
“At the federal level they have already shown us they are not going to listen to the people,” Mr. Jones said.
He also acknowledged that his fundraising for the congressional race had not met his goals.
Initial attempts to reach Sen. Mullis were unsuccessful this morning.
