Rush Hour, a collegiate barbershop quartet from the Dixie District of the Barbershop Harmony Society, won a competition for collegiate quartets in Greenville, S.C.
The quartet’s members are Adam Murphy, Shaun Sneed, Jackson Pinder and Alex Sturgill. They are all experienced musicians but have never formally studied voice since they all have backgrounds in instrumental music.
Mr. Sneed attends Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn., and Mr. Sturgill recently graduated from Lee with a degree in telecommunications.
Mr. Murphy and Mr. Pinder attend Samford University in Birmingham, Ala.
Rush Hour scored higher than a well-known Atlanta quartet and two quartets formed from Voices of Mobile from the University of Mobile in Mobile, Ala., an a cappella group similar to Lee University’s Voices of Lee.
As the district winner, the singers earned the right to compete at the International Barbershop Convention in June. That contest, Bank of America International Collegiate Quartet Contest, will be held in Philadelphia.
