Red Bank’s up-and-down softball season was up Friday.
Ashlen Mitchell’s two-out, two-run single in the first inning provided a good start for the Lady Lions’ 6-0 five-inning victory over Silverdale Baptist in one of the early pool-play games in the Lady Wildcat March Madness tournament at Hixson.
East Ridge won 12-1 over Tyner in five innings and Notre Dame edged Hixson 9-8 in five innings in the tournament opener.
Today’s pool play at Hixson is set to begin at 9 a.m. Three games are scheduled at East Ridge, beginning at 12:30 p.m. The last pool-play game is slated for a 5:45 start at Hixson, and the two teams with the best pool-play records will meet in the final scheduled at 8:15.
Red Bank’s Mitchell hit doubles in her next two at-bats, one driving in another run, and she scored twice. Brooke Reed added two hits.
