EPB is extending its video and telecommunications network this month into parts of Soddy-Daisy, Signal Mountain and Lakesite, officials said Tuesday.
EPB spokeswoman Lacie Newton said the city-owned utility is laying fiber-optic lines into outlying suburbs to offer its television, Internet and phone service throughout most of its service territory.
EPB expects to have its fiber optic telecom services throughout all of Chattanooga, East Ridge and Red Bank by the end of June.
The utility plans to have its residential cable, phone and Internet services along with smart meters to all area homes within three years.
“We know there are large portions of our community, especially in more rural areas, who’ve been historically left behind when it comes to next generation communications services,” Katie Espeseth, vice president of EPB Fiber Optics, said today in a prepared statement. “At the beginning of our initiative, we made a commitment to make our 100 percent fiber optic services accessible to every home in our customer service area.”
Since launching its new fiber optic service last fall, EPB has signed up 8,362 EPB fiber optics customers, the company said.
