More storms expected across area

Storms rolled through the area Saturday, with more on tap today that could bring threats of flooding, according to the National Weather Service.

“There could be some flooding,” said Terry Getz, a meteorologist for the weather service in Morristown, Tenn. “Especially if we get widespread showers. What we got (Saturday) was randomly placed, but the frontal boundary coming in might be more organized.”

Minimal damage was reported Saturday as the storms weakened when they passed through, Mr. Getz said. Hail ranging from quarter to golf ball size was reported in areas of Bradley and McMinn counties, and a couple of trees were knocked down in Rhea County.

Most of the heaviest rain, Mr. Getz said, fell over Bledsoe and Rhea counties and the northwest portion of Hamilton County, pouring 2 to 3 inches in the area where the three come together.

Area residents can expect scattered showers this morning, with occasional storms throughout the afternoon. Mr. Getz said the chance of severe weather is slim, but localized heavy rain of 1 to 2 inches or more bring the potential for flooding.
