Tuesday’s congressional elections in Tennessee produced a major shift from a Democrat majority to a Republican majority.
In Tennessee’s 4th Congressional District, which borders the Chattanooga area, Republican Dr. Scott DesJarlais won an important landslide upset victory over incumbent Democrat U.S. Rep. Lincoln Davis.
DesJarlais ran as a distinct conservative, while Davis sought to minimize his sometimes very liberal record as a member of Congress.
Tennessee’s full list of congressional winners Tuesday were:
1st District — Republican Rep. Phil Roe.
2nd District — Republican Rep. Jimmy Duncan.
3rd District — Republican Chuck Fleischmann.
4th District — Republican DesJarlais.
5th District — Democrat Rep. Jim Cooper.
6th District — Republican Diane Black.
7th District — Republican Rep. Marsha Blackburn.
8th District — Republican Stephen Fincher.
9th District — Democrat Rep. Steve Cohen.
These results shifted Tennessee’s House of Representatives delegation from a 5-4 Democrat majority to a 7-2 Republican majority.
