Democrats abandon the president

A recent survey gauging support for President Barack Obama revealed a stunning statistic: Among strictly Democrats who responded to the survey, 47 percent said the president should be challenged from within the Democratic Party for the 2012 nomination! Only 51 percent of Democrats say he should not be opposed for the party nomination.

We knew that the president’s approval ratings overall were low, but it is startling that nearly half within his own party are hoping that another Democrat will seek the nomination to face a Republican candidate two years from now.

When The Associated Press-Knowledge Networks poll surveyed voters from both parties, 51 percent of respondents said the president should be defeated in 2012. Forty-seven percent want him re-elected.

Unfortunately, the president has his policies to blame for his plunging popularity with voters. In particular, unwieldy ObamaCare socialized medicine and the $862 billion so-called “stimulus” are strongly disliked.

Now it remains to be seen whether some top-notch potential Republican candidates will rise to prominence before 2012.
