Cakefest remembers musician Keith Turner

Saturday, artists and fans will perform at Cakefest, a tribute to the memory of local musician Keith Turner.

Turner, 42, was a lifelong drummer and was playing with the band 3 and Out when he was killed in an automobile accident on Sept. 21, according to a Sept. 27 Times Free Press obituary.

Friends and former bandmates will gather to celebrate Turner’s life at the Dunlap Coke Ovens, 350 Mountain View Road in Dunlap, Tenn., from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and at Charlie’s Lounge, 8504 Dayton Pike in Soddy-Daisy from 4:30 p.m. to closing (The Dunlap show is in Central time.)

There will be a poker run from Rob’s Restaurant, 5308 Dayton Blvd., to Charlie’s Lounge starting at noon.

Turner left the band Mother of Pearl four years ago to form 3 and Out and was about to rejoin the lineup before his death. The shock of his passing is still palpable, said Mother of Pearl lead singer Ted Caldwell.

“Of course our hearts are broke. It totally rocked our world,” he said

Mother of Pearl is one of several groups who will be performing at the tribute, including Sequatchie, Boyd Brothers, 5th Gear and 3 and Out.

Donations to Turner will go to Mavis Turner and Brittany Turner, Turner’s mother and daughter, through the Keith Turner Memorial Fund at P.O. Box 697, 15699 Rankin Ave., Dunlap, Tenn., or by calling 423-949-2173.
